OH WHAT A NIGHT… AT THE HOTEL FOSTER ~July 18th~

Tonight at Hotel Foster, Catacombz, Calliope and Waxworks will be taking over the trendy venue. This show is one to highlight because summer is filled with many outdoor events and festivals that sometimes its easy to forget about an amazing show happening indoors. Well tonight will be quite worth being inside despite the beautiful weather outside. The lineup tonight has a perfect balance between blues, rock and electronic, the best ingredients for a good night.

Milwaukee bands Calliope and Catacombz have gained a larger audience recently due to much success musically. Calliope recently played at the Cascio Stage at Summerfest and Catacombz have been on a couple of tours already this year & hitting up larger cities. Catacombz has a sound that is more of a modern day take on the 80′s club scene, at least in my mind. Calliope with their psychedelic rock and roll will trance you back to the 60′s with lead men Al Kraemer and Victor Buell. The band is currently in the works on a new album hopefully to be released by fall. Waxworks is a blues/rock group from Chicago that has a unique way to break their music down in to a acoustic set while still harmonizing from the soul. Check out Waxworks’ self titled acoustic EP. Songs like “Cold Bones” give me a feeling that they are going to rock live.

Make sure to check out the show tonight, it will be a packed house. Door cover is only $3 and the music starts at 9pm so get there early!

CATACOMBZ, SLOW WALKER, HEAD ON ELECTRIC

Slow Walker, Head on Electirc and Catacombz, all bands of different genres collaborated on Thursday night at Linneman’s in Riverwest.

Your classic “I grew up with these guys” rock and roll band started off the night. From Menomonee Falls, Slow Walker definitely has that loud early punk sound. “Slow Walker is a breath of fresh Milwaukee rock and roll” said Joseph “Rioturbo” Peterson of Catacombz. I got to talk to him after the show to get an inside perspective. Slow Walker is making their presence here in Riverwest and also down in Bay View, as they played at the Cactus Club recently. To Slow Walker : Keep doing your thing! Take a listen on bandcamp!

Next up, Head on Electric turned up the volume. At times their sound reminded me of Nirvana’s “Bleach”. I feel as though my head might still be ringing from last night remembering the vibrations of bass and drums pulsating throughout my body. This was my first time hearing these guys play and I was impressed. Check them out at www.headonelectric.com , they have a full list of shows, and also an album you can listen to or buy on Itunes.

After a little intermission the show turned all attention over to the headliner, Catacombz. They turned down the lights and got everyone in the mood right away. They have a groovy electronic sound made up of a full band. They also came prepared with a great little light show bringing a club atmosphere into the audience. Talking with Joseph “Rioturbo” Peterson again, I asked how long they have been together as the Catacombz. “Isaac and I have been in the band for about 8 years now.” I then asked if there is anything in the works for the future of Catacombz. “We are about to go on tour in the summer and circle the west coast.” After a few moments talking with him outside they had to load their equipment and call it a night. The Catacombz also have music available for download on bandcamp.
